Ozone for Odor Removal? Better think twice!

Did you know that Canada advises against using ozone generators in homes? Although they are sold as indoor air cleaners, the level of ozone they produce may actually harm your health. They can also create other dangerous chemicals. The United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has cited Ozone as possibly harmful and that "When inhaled, ozone can damage the lungs. Relatively low amounts of ozone can cause chest pain, coughing, shortness of breath and, throat irritation. It may also worsen chronic respiratory diseases such as asthma as well as compromise the ability of the body to fight respiratory infections."

Furthermore, Brian W. Christman, who is a Professor of Medicine at Vanderbilt University who couples as a spokesman for the American Lung Association has noted that “Ozone makes it hard for people with asthma or heart trouble, and at high enough levels, it can bother anyone,” Christman has also noted that ozone is a key factor in air pollution. Smokers are already at increased risks of cardiovascular disease, asthma, and other breathing issues in general. It's no surprise that using ozone could exacerbate these risks.

Although legal in the United States, no federal agency has approved the use of ozone generators in occupied spaces, and the California Air Resources Board has very strict regulation for air purifiers sold in California to make sure that harmful ozone levels are not being produced.

Manufacturers say that the highly reactive nature of ozone allows it to easily attach to pollution, especially odorous compounds like smoke and organic matter such as viruses, bacteria and mold spores. However, these claims are not backed up by sound science. The EPA concludes from a review of scientific research that at concentrations that meet public health standards, ozone is not very effective at removing indoor air contaminants.

In my previous work, I used to use ozone generators to remove odors, but have since disposed of the machines for the simple reason that they did not work! I had believed the marketing, but customer complaints and subsequent refunds of customer payments were proof positive that this is not an effective odor removal method.

In order for Ozone to even work on cigarette odors you must thoroughly clean everything, this could also mean carpets and the padding underneath. Attempts to effectively remove the odor then require ozone concentrations at much higher rates than is considered safe to breathe. Ozone is bad for your health, bad for the environment, and poor at removing odors.

The solution is a Technologically Advanced Vapor System (TAVS™) that utilizes Chlorine Dioxide and is approved by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA). TAVS™ is one of the only options on the market that actually removes cigarette odors, completely eliminating the smoke and nicotine smell from any surface. TAVS™ removes 100% of odors from any property and the best part? It's a safe and effective method that sanitizes and deodorizes without leaving behind any toxic chemicals.

The Upside:

  • Safe for families, pets, and the environment

  • No need to paint or remove carpet

  • Extreme odor removal

  • Half the price of outdated techniques

  • Odors removed within 24-hours

  • All products are made in the USA

The Downside:

  • You have to find somewhere to kick back, relax, and enjoy that beautiful Florida weather while the experts do all the work...Bummer!
